Garth's at Pioneer Town

On the last night at the slabs, Peter hosted a group
of us for an early 70th birthday celebration.

Then we all caravanned to Pappy and Harriet's in
Pioneer town, one of my favorite open mics.

The drummer at the open mic, Lance, invited us to
visit Garth's where he lives. Garth himself lives in this
teepee made of concrete. We had a lovely time
with this group of beautiful people.

The people at Garth's are all about sustainable community and
experimental housing, food forests and permaculture food production.

Borrego Springs, CA

Borrego Springs is a little desert town with this beautiful,
green oasis in its center called the Christmas Circle.

Borrego Springs is also home to over a hundred
large-scale metal sculptures created by artist Ricaro Breceda.

The most famous and most ambitious of
these is the "Sea Serpent." Dolphin showed no fear as
he danced with abandon near the beast's gaping maw

Some More Shots of Slab City

Sequoia driving the hostel's deathtrap-mobile,
a very Slabby homemade go-kart.

Stick Man dreamed up and created this
solar-poweredvehicle from a tricycle, a solar panel and the
mechanism from a Rascal-type scooter.

Sean visited the Slabs in this tiny pod trailer.
And I thought I was living small.

And the gorgeous desert skies just
keep on coming.

A last shot of Salvation Mountain lit by the full moon.

The Midnight Riders, a group of Burning Man types
made their annual bicycle trek from LA to the Slabs.
